As we enter month two of remote learning, I would like to give a personal thank you and a big shout to all our parents and families for adjusting to this new terrain of Remote Learning. We have over 80% participation rate from our students and I could not be prouder! We are grateful for all that you are doing to support the success of your child as we finish the 2019-2020 school year in remote learning. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to tackle this new world of remote learning, but our RBS School Community shows that we can rise above all challenges! Thank you!
COVID 19 UPDATE: As of right now, all schools are closed for the remainder of the school year.
REMOTE LEARNING: We will be conducting Remote Teaching and Learning via Google Classrooms, I-Ready and Pearson Realize. School wide communication will happen via the BLOOMZ APP and the School Messenger ROBO Call System.
VIRTUAL SPIRIT WEEK: The week of 5/4 – 5/8 will be our Virtual Spirit Week. Spirit Week activities are meant to be fun and family oriented. Please feel free to share in the fun with your child by participating in the daily challenges via Google Classroom.
VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING / CDEC: I will be hosting a Virtual Zoom Town Hall Meeting for all parents and families of P.S. 132 Q to address any lingering concerns or questions on May 11th at 5pm. We are in this together and I would like to provide as much clarity on any concerns of our school community. Our District also hosts a Community District Education Council Meeting every month and now it is done virtually via Zoom. Details will be provided when shared. This is a great outlet to hear of any upcoming changes or voice any concerns. Zoom Meeting info will be posted on Bloomz, IG, School Website and the Google Classroom pages.
GRADING / PROMOTION POLICY: This week the NYC Chancellor, Richard Carranza shared the DOE grading and promotional policy, which was also uploaded via Bloomz. Teachers will base students’ final grades on a holistic review of their progress before and after we started remote learning. Attendance will not be a factor in students’ grades. No student will receive a failing final grade. K - 5th Students receive final grades of either “Meets Standards” (MT) or “Needs Improvement” (N) on their final report cards. The DOE is continuing to develop plans for programming and supports over the summer months. More information about summer school will be made available and shared in the upcoming weeks.
ASSESSMENT WEEK: Students will engage in 3 Assessments during the week of 5/4 and 5/11. During the designated weeks of assessment, instruction will be suspended. Students can use the extra time to complete make up assignments, complete I-ready lessons and study for cumulative assessments. An assessment will be giving in Reading, Writing and Math.
REMOTE LEARNING SURVEYS: Remote Learning Surveys are a perfect way for you to voice your opinion about our school. We encourage you to complete the online applications through the MySchools website. The survey window has been extended until June 26, 2020. https://www.schools.nyc.gov/RLsurvey
End of the Year Activities: We will be continuing with End of Year Activities including a Stepping Up Fun Day for Pre-K, Graduation for Kindergarten and Fifth Grade and Prom for Grade 5 students. Of course, all will be done virtually. More information will follow. Fifth grade seniors will be receiving their Graduation items shortly due to a delay in shipping.
3-K, PRE-K, AND KINDERGARTEN UPDATE: Due to COVID 19 budget cuts, our 3K program slated for 2020-2021 school year has been delayed. Pre-K and Kindergarten offers are available on the myschools website. We are accepting students in both Pre-K and Kindergarten without a waitlist. Please spread the word!
